Square

The great music just keeps coming!

Below is an eclectic mix of five new releases that we are vibing with right now.

1. Reform – Kinships

The 4 piece UK based band, Kinships formed in 2019 and include Tom Butler, Dave Crawford, Aoife Foley, and Adam Gammage and the 4 of them create a style of music that brings together classic instrumentation such as pianos, vocals and guitars infused with the sounds of drum machines, samples and synthesisers.

The band’s latest track, ‘Reform’, relates to that moment where you find that you’re losing yourself.. losing that sense of who you are and who you are wanting to be, yet still realising that you can begin again.. build yourself up.. work through the pain and rebuilding yourself into the person that you always hoped you would be.

As you begin to listen to the song, you will be taken to a dream-like state with light and delicate electro beats and synth.. As the vocals kick in, you are faced with the beginning of a story and can picture yourself facing the dilemma that maybe you’re not who you thought you might be.

While the song holds a heavy topic.. the feel of the song is intimate and hopeful.. and you will come away filled with a positivity of what the future may bring.

Out of Edinburgh, Scotland, comes Ewan Patrick.. A solo and passionate singer/songwriter, who has spent his life surrounded with music.

Listening to the album, the first track heard is ‘Feels Good To Be Alive’.. This rock feel track starts immediately with the raw and authentic vocals of Ewan.. It’s an uplifting track that instantly puts you into a positive feel-good mood. The song has a paradoxical undertone of things are not perfect.. I may be hurting.. but I’m alive and I feel good.

As you move through the tracks, the sentiment continues.. ‘Hurricane’ talks of not being afraid to speak up.. ‘Law of Life’ addresses that change is happening and asks if you will be a part of it.. ‘Forever Love’ relates to the gratefulness that Ewan holds for his ‘miracle’ daughter.. ‘Be strong’ acknowledges that one moment that can change your life.. There is so much positivity in the tracks and the view that Ewan holds of the world shines through his release.

This is definitely a must listen album!

4. Holding It Together – Suburbs (EP)

Southern Ontario, Canada based Dave, Mac, and Jake are the trio that make up Suburbs. The three artists held a shared vision, which brought them together in creating their unique sound, containing catchy melodies, lyrics filled with story and a groovy vibe.

The name, ‘Suburbs’ was born very intentionally.. they talk about the concept that “SUBURBS is not a place, but an idea. Something that lives in both the ideal and the outskirts of a dream. A collective of thought. A community with no boundaries, bringing people together through artistic expression.”

Suburbs’ latest EP, ‘Holding It Together’ was created through the Covid-19 pandemic and exudes the emotions that many of us have felt during this period.. feelings of loneliness.. isolation and fear.. of dealing with love and life throughout this time.

The tracks explore the mixed feelings felt at different times throughout the pandemic.. ‘Next To Me’ has a positive and uplifting vibe, while still containing the raw emotions felt through a story of how in awe he is with the one next to him.. As you move through the EP to ‘Don’t Fear’ you are faced with the tear-jerking ballad style song that dives deep into the heart of the experience of Covid.

This is truly an EP that explores all the ranges of thoughts, emotions and experiences that we face as we go through challenging times.

5. I’m Fine – Ethan Senger

Influenced by artists such as John Mayer, The Goo Goo Dolls and U2, US, Georgia based artist, Ethan Senger, is a third generational artist and guitarist who brings the mixed vibes of pop, rock and singer/songwriter to your ears.

At just 21 years of age, he now has released his single, ‘I’m Fine’, which is a deep dive into the emotional experience of unrequited love.

As you begin to listen to the track you are drawn into the dark minor key feel, with guitar and a cinematic instrumentation that reminds you of a Chris Isaac ‘Wicked Games’ introduction.. As his warm vocals enter the song, it remains in that sullen yet intriguing feel.

Th song takes you on a journey that explores the full range of experience of a love unrequited, from the feelings of loss to the feelings of hope that something might be.

This is a song with maturity well beyond his age and a highly recommended addition to your playlists.
