Square

I am continually blown away by just how much amazing new music is being released right now..

Below, I share with you 6 new releases that I am loving right now.. I would love to hear your thoughts!

1. When The Lights Went Out – Bailey Tomkinson

Based in Cornwall, UK, Bailey Tomkinson has been compared to and named as the United Kingdom’s answer to Taylor Swift.

Bailey’s last single, ‘Bright Red’ was written to speak out about sustainability and social justice issues and reached number one in the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts.

She is back again to share her surf rock/americana/pop sounding single, ‘When The Lights Went Out’.. the first taste of her upcoming EP, set for release in early 2022.

The track begins with the simple sound of electric guitar and Bailey’s smooth and captivating voice.. it begins with a statement.. ‘We were never serious’..

The song then flows into a story of a love that was never meant to be.. a love where the ‘lights went out’.. It’s a story that as the music builds and the words flow, you can put yourself into the often familiar scene of a love lost, watching the heartbreak unravel.

‘When The Light’s Went Out’ is truly a song that will draw you in and taking the time to have a listen once will start you on the road to playing the catchy tune many times on repeat.

2. Lidocaine – Finter

‘Finter’ is the musical alias for North Yorkshire artist Guy Alexander Daws.. now living in Austria. His music is brought to life with various collaborations to take you on a journey of musical expression.

Finter’s music is designed to express his unique viewpoints on relationships and life and takes inspiration from artists such as Matt Corby, Franc Moody and Bruckner. His creativity is born out of nature, particularly in the mountains, where he feels that his music can soar to the highest of places.

Mixed by Matt Corby and Mastered by Geoff Peshe at Abby Road Studios, the sound of Lidocaine begins as a very unique introduction with a mix of vocals and instruments that begin to take you to a new atmospheric world of Finter’s soundscapes.

As you progress through the song the energy builds and will have you dancing, however if you listen more closely, you will come across themes of feeling inadequate and the need for affection, which are themes that most of us have felt at times.

3. Something To Believe In – EMBLM

Based in the United Kingdom, EMBLM is the musical alias for artist and creative, Jim Molyneux.

We all know our personal experiences and the experiences of the communities around us, that have come as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns.

‘Something To Believe In’ was written by EMBLM in what he describes as the two darkest months of his life.. that is the lockdown of January and February 2021 in his UK based home.

The song describes the feelings that he felt at the time, including feelings of anxiety.. desperation.. and hope.

As you begin to listen to the track, there is a light and homely sense with piano and light instruments.. almost as if the light of the morning is beginning to pour through the windows and into your house.

As you progress through the song, the light and hopeful feel continues.. the vocal effect takes you to a dreamy place.. a place where you can be reminded that while this might be a dark time, the light will come through and the darkness will end.

This relaxing song is an absolute must-listen.

4. Shadows On My Wall – Luna Keller

With music seeping through her veins from birth, Luna Keller grew up surrounded by music.. with a lifestyle of travelling between two cultures, Germany and Spain, this music became this singer/songwriter’s companion.. Growing up, Luna often called her songs, her ‘friends’.

Now residing in Germany, Luna Keller has now released her 6th single, ‘Shadows On My Wall’ from her upcoming debut album.

While Luna is generally known for songs that bring hope and positivity, in this song, she is sharing a more vulnerable side.. ‘Shadows On My Wall’ is about insecurity and social anxiety. It’s a song born out of her experience of managing the effects of being severely bullied as a child and the reality that those feelings and doubts remain as we get older.

Through this song, Luna hopes that by sharing her own experiences, that someone may be able to take away a thread of hope in dealing with their own internal struggles.

As you listen to the song, you are drawn into the emotion and the feelings that lie behind the track.. you can hear that Luna is sharing something real in her own life.

Jackie has a passion for sharing themes of family, climate and vulnerability through her songwriting and her debut EP release, ‘Juniper’, is no exception.

As a child, Jackie spent some time living alone in her mother’s childhood home on the street of Juniper Drive and this became the inspiration for the EP.

‘Mother’ is a song born out of the heartache and grief and the need for the survival and health of her mother as the 2020 Californian wildfires were taking grip.

‘Rhubarb Fields’ is a nostalgic track, paying homage to her roots and the magical patch of rhubarb which resided outside the Juniper Drive house for many generations.

As you listen to the indie rock/pop feel tracks, you will gain an emotional glimpse into a life and time at Juniper Drive.

6. Real Things – Jaayns

Alternative-electro, Leeds based artist, Jaayns, creates melodic and alternative music in her home studio and builds in collaborations from many other artists, writers and producers. Her music has been influenced by artists such as Nao, Bjork, Caroline Polachek, St Vincent and Banks.

Jaayns latest track, ‘Real Things’ is a reflection on the societal pressures that many of us feel.. the fear of being imperfect.. being judged or being not good enough.. It’s a song about these pressures hindering us in being the people we have the potential to be.

‘Real Things’, mixed with layers of electronic sounds, throws you back to a 90’s indie or Americana type feel.

The artwork for the track has been artfully created through collaboration with Manchester contemporary artist, Ella Fradgley, which if you look closely, incorporates the lyrics of the song into the design.

As you begin to listen to the track, immediately, the story begins.. a story that we are all too familiar with.. that story of our minds telling us about the mistakes we have made are going to lead to us being judged.. that we are not perfect..

The track is introspective but also has a sense of experimental and alternative edge. A highly recommended listen!
