Sydney Gordon Speaks Her Truth With ‘Say What You Mean’

Square

Based in New York, USA, power pop singer/songwriter, Sydney Gordon joins us to talk all about her latest single release, ‘Say What You Mean’.

Growing up surrounded by a musical family and with a Grandfather operating a New York radio station, Sydney began her musical journey at a very young age, starting her singing lessons at the age of 7 and piano lessons following along. At the age of 13, she was invited to play a show at The Bitter End, a nightclub in New York City’s Greenwich Village, which later became a performance residency location.

Today, having her vocals compared to the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Demi Lovato and Christina Aguilera, Sydney has launched her independent label, Static Impulse Records, which will be introducing a stream of new releases throughout the months of 2022.

Co-written and produced by Mike Cortes, Sydney Gordon’s latest single release, ‘Say What You Mean’ is an ode to truly being yourself and not being afraid to speak your truth.

The anthemic upbeat pop track features the lively and captivating vocals of Sydney and an atmosphere that will leave you singing along and dancing around the room.

You can listen to ‘Say What You Mean’ below:

Would you like to start by telling us a little about yourself?

It’s always hard to critique oneself but I would say I’m very focused and driven.

I love to be able to make people feel good about themselves through my music. As I am fortunate enough to live in NYC, I have a lot of avenues open to me and I pull a lot of my creativity from my experience living there.

What was it that first inspired you to begin a career in music?

I became inspired to begin a career in music when I started writing my own material.

When I sing songs by other artists’ I always try to picture myself in their shoes in order to understand
the story they’re telling.

There came a point while I was doing this where I just wanted to tell my own story.

Since that moment, I knew that writing and performing was all I wanted to do.

How would you describe the feel of your music?

My music is uplifting and sensual!

You have recently released your single, ‘Say What You Mean’.. what was the inspiration behind the creation of this track?

Say What You Mean is about not being afraid to speak your mind.

This track is one of my favorites because of the message that it sends to my listeners.

I was inspired to write this because I want to let them know that it is okay to say what you mean and be yourself!

What did the creative process look like for ‘Say What You Mean’?

I co-wrote Say What You Mean with Mike Cortes, who is also the producer on this track.

When Mike and I are in the studio, we usually talk a bit before we get into each session and we’ll share
how we are feeling that day.

I remember I came in and I told him that I wanna express to my listeners the importance of honesty and that you should always be true to yourself!

My inspiration comes from my own experiences.

Creating music is my therapy.

How has Covid-19 affected your releasing?

Luckily covid really didn’t play much of a role in my releases.

I was always able to FaceTime or Zoom with my co-writers and producers.

What would you like to see happen for you in your music from here?

I’d like to continue to write and co-write as well as learn as much as I can about producing music.

I will continue to release singles and I am working towards an album release.

What is one message you would like to share with your fans?

Hard work always pays off. If you really want something you must work for it!

Nothing worth it is easy.

Keep going.
