Dave Power’s deeply introspective EP, ‘Perspective‘ was released to the public on 9th October this year.. It’s an EP, full of what has been described as ‘sunny, uplifting music and existential musings’.
At Couch Mag, we were keen to discover what makes Dave Power and what inspires such a talented folk/indie artist to develop such a deeply heartfelt collection of songs, that make up ‘Perspective‘. As such, we spent some time getting to know the man and discovering more about who the real Dave Power is.. and.. we are now ready to spill!
Who is Dave Power?
Dave’s story as a singer-songwriter and guitarist begins in Brisbane, Australia.. where his music and his life are based.
He says ‘I’ve been writing and recording my tunes for over 20 years, always striving to make music that is honest.’
With one listen to his tracks, you will be captivated by the honesty.. the feeling.. and the rawness that resides within their centre.
Over his 20 years of experience, Dave has developed a trademark for himself of playing tender ballads.. although.. every so often, you will catch him moving off to a slight detour, such as his last blues based detour.. providing variation and exciting unpredictability to his fans.
Inspiration behind ‘Perspective’
Fast forward to today and ‘Perspective‘ has been created, recorded and put out into the public eye for many to connect to.
Dave told as the the inspiration to create the EP, ‘Perspective‘ was “an urge to build a release around the concept of “Perspective” (that is, stepping back and analysing where I’ve been and where I’m going as a person) has been strong in my mind for a few years.”
He says that “writing and recording this EP has been an incredibly therapeutic adventure.”
For Dave, there are two distinct themes within the songs on the EP. Firstly, his gratefulness for all the good that he has within his life and secondly, the critical eye of personal reflection.. It’s this contrast that creates the feeling of depth.. a sense wholeness within his music.
What does the future hold for Dave Power?
With experience under his belt and an ever growing songbook, the question is what is next for this humble songwriter?
Dave tells us, “The only thing for certain is that as long as I’m alive, I’ll be learning, growing, writing and releasing more music – irrespective of whether anyone listens to it – it’s important for me to speak my message in song.”
