Burr Island Shares A Timeless Ode to Nature’s Embrace with “Our Home”

London-based acoustic folk duo Burr Island just returned with a new single, “Our Home”, via Left Foot Records. Behind the name Burr Island, we find two best friends, Tom England and Oskar Porter who have already received accolades from industry legends like Robert Plant and Noel Gallagher

With their debut album on the horizon and over 250,000 streams across all platforms for their first four releases, the two friends are carving a niche for themselves in the indie folk scene. Their live performances, including supporting acts like Ocean Colour Scene and Paul Weller, have earned them a dedicated fanbase and sold-out shows at iconic venues across the UK.

Both trained as actors, Tom England and Oskar Porter found solace and inspiration in music during the Covid-19 lockdowns, writing songs amidst the serene landscapes of the Jurassic Coast. Influenced by the likes of Lennon/McCartney, Paul Simon, and Crosby Stills & Nash, Burr Island’s sound evokes the golden era of folk while maintaining a contemporary edge, drawing comparisons to modern indie folk luminaries like Fleet Foxes and Kings of Convenience.

“Our Home” encapsulates Burr Island’s signature sound, transporting listeners to a tranquil oasis of acoustic guitar melodies and ethereal vocals. With enchanting contributions from Tim Smart on trombone and Jacko Peake on flute, the song shows the beauty and serenity found in nature – a respite from the chaos of modern life.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind “Our Home”, the duo shares, “Writing this song was like sitting in the most tranquil of landscapes, merely observing what came into view. It’s about truly being in the natural world and reconnecting with our true home, where wisdom, inspiration, birth, rebirth and love can be seen, felt, tasted, heard, smelt in the smallest of things. We’re often told that we must ‘appreciate the small things’ and, in reality, the ‘small things’ are hugely important.
