He skilfully weaves a story about feeling alone or alienated while also driving a building depth through layers of vocal harmonies that transport you to the song’s intense emotional centre.
“Surface” dives deeply into the feelings that come with trying not to feel like an outsider and wanting to fit in yet frequently being left out. According to Dom, the inspiration for his music in 2024 comes from a wider range of sources than just his own experiences. He aims to push himself both musically and lyrically while exploring new subjects. As a result of his increased writing ability, he now prefers guitar-driven songs to make his name in the indie rock/alternative genre.
“But what am I, what am I / Just words without meaning / But what am I, what am I / A voice without feeling” eloquently captures the essence of existential self-examination. His life is filled with instances where he battled feeling unfulfilled and not being understood in its entirety.
