Australia’s authentic, yet sassy Pop/R&B princess, Taylor B-W is determined to create a musical landscape of ‘modern day nostalgia’ filled with relatable and honest lyricism.
I had the honour of getting to know Taylor B-W further in March this year, when she released her single, ‘In Ur Net’. You can read all about it here.
Heavily inspired by 90’s music and culture and intricately blending it with inspiration from modern day artists like BANKS, The Weeknd, Vera Blue, Sevdaliza, Bjork, Billie Eilish, Halsey and Kimbra, Taylor B-W can regularly be seen performing around the stages of Sydney, Australia, whether performing an intimate acoustic act or playing with her band.
Produced by Liam Quinn (Rita Ora, Lime Cordiale, Peach PRC), Taylor B-W’s debut EP, ‘BTW-TWB’ is a collection of six tracks that represent the last six years of Taylor’s life.
“I’ve had to process so much over the past six years – life was really messy and unhinged for a while. Some of the songs on this EP I’ve held close to me for some time and it will be a relief to have this documentation released into the world so I can finally have some closure.” Taylor B-W
‘BTW-TWB’ features tracks that have captured the attention of worldwide listeners, such as 2021 playful number, ‘I’m So Broke’, which was released during the second Covid-19 lockdown in Sydney, ‘In Ur Net’, a Reggaetón feel track that brings together energy and bounce and fuses it with the vulnerability of deeper thought, and her slower, more emotional track ‘Tears of Coal’.
The bravery and boldness of being an open book with her own deep inner struggles and challenges has allowed so many listeners to connect, finding familiarity and alignment with many themes that may be present in their own lives, and will continue to touch the lives of many more as time goes on.
“My mental health has plagued me since I was young and being able to open up about it through my music has unleashed a whole level of freedom I never thought I’d be able to reach – it is empowering. Thankfully, the topic of mental health is no longer taboo, so I hope to encourage those who feel like they cannot voice their own struggles, to go ahead and speak up.” Taylor B-W
