I Am Enough! With Elise Cabret

Square

A little while back, I caught wind of an incredible project being run by a woman even more incredible in her own right..

Elise Cabret is an Australian based singer/songwriter.. she is also a coach and a mentor and has a particular passion for supporting people with their mental health through songwriting. It is through this passion that Elise started the DAWTER community, where she shares courses to support others through their songwriting journeys.

With Elise’s latest song.. she created a project.. one that she could promote awareness of mental health and incorporate many people in the community, in a fun and creative way.. The project was ‘I Am Enough’.

“I am always actively working on my mental health. I have the words “I am enough” written on my bathroom mirror. One day my friend saw this and walked into my living room declaring “I am enough!” like a superhero declaring their catchphrase. This gave me the idea to write a song about a superhero who fights for mental health. Because we all really are superheroes in a way – fighting our own battles each day, and that takes a lot of courage and strength. “

The project features a video, in which she organised members of her community to be involved in the video.. to share a little snapshot of their lives as an everyday superhero.

The idea of making a collaborative music video for this song really appealed to me. At a time when a lot of people are stuck in lockdowns, feeling isolated and uncertain, I wanted to do something that would bring people together, and show them that even if they are struggling, they aren’t alone. I figured a superhero themed montage of people dancing in their homes or backyards would be the perfect fit – especially during Covid. So I put the word out on social media to see if anyone would be interested.

“I am so happy with the way this song and music video has turned out. As I was editing together all the footage, I had the biggest smile on my face. A lot of the people in the video I have never met – which in a way makes it even more special. “

“Since releasing the video, I’ve had  people contact me to tell me they’ve been doing it tough lately and the song really made their day. One person said “I can’t stop telling myself I am enough! It has made me feel really good.” As a songwriter, that’s just about the best feedback I could ever ask for!”
