“This EP proves to me that the only thing stopping so many people from pursuing what they want is fear. But, stuff it! What do you really have to lose?”

Anna Leeworthy

Anna Leeworthy’s debut EP, ‘Go Figure‘, has officially hit the shelves and is available for all your listening ears.. BUT.. the big question is, who exactly is Anna and what is the story that inspired her to create these passionate and emotion filled tracks?

We have spent some time with Anna, gaining all the inside scoop and are now ready to spill! This article will allow you to take a peek behind the curtain, into this alternative pop/R&B Songstress, that is Anna Leeworthy.. and to delve into the creativity and inspiration behind her EP, ‘Go Figure‘.

Who is Anna Leeworthy

Anna grew up in Albury, New South Wales, Australia, on the border of New South Wales and Victoria.

“My mum was musical, so I was raised surrounded by music. I learnt piano from a young age, but I always just wanted to sing (I’m glad I learnt piano though, as it helps me when I write!)”

“My parents are Pastors of a church so from early on I was on stage every Sunday playing piano and singing backup vocals. It wasn’t necessarily ‘performing’, as church felt like family, but it did help my develop confidence to sing in front of people without feeling nervous.'”

At just 5 years old.. Anna wrote her very first song.. If you were to ask her to play it for you today.. she could still play and recall it as she wrote it all those years ago.

“Writing music was something I always loved doing, writing (even if just journaling) has always been such an outlet for me.”

Inspiration behind ‘Go Figure’

Like so many of us, Anna had her own battles of comparison, overwhelm and belief in her knowledge that she needed to face, before her dream of her debut EP could be reached.

“I woke up one day in May 2020 and realised, if I don’t start releasing the music I’d written 5 years ago…. I never would – and that scared me! So I immediately went to my computer and submitted my first single ‘Say So’ to be released.”

From that time, she realised that she didn’t need to put so much pressure on herself and she got to work in releasing her music, with the belief that she “had nothing to lose”.

‘Go Figure’ is a collection of songs that Anna wrote at all stages of her life, between the ages of 19 and 24.

Below, Anna takes us through the inspiration for each song in her EP.

Go Figure

“This was written in a small room with a fire in Dan’s (my husband) family home, right before Covid-19 lockdown!”

“I was remissing about how Dan and I met/all the little stories we had and that’s how this song written.”

“The short version of the back story is: when Dan and  first began ‘hanging out’, I thought we had the same understanding that we both were into each other. Then he took another girl out to make me jealous. Well it worked…. And it totally back fired on him!”

“In his defence, he was totally naive also, and it forced us to tell each other how we feel, so… go figure!”

Fight

“Fight was written in 30 mins after an argument between my sister and I (ISO troubles)”

“It’s really not that serious of a song, and she was fine with me releasing it.”

“Her and I are best friends which is why this is one of my favourite songs.
It’s now an ice breaker for when we start to get a bit frustrated with each other, we’ll just sing (really badly) “Let’s not fight”.”

Sun Go Down

“Do not let the sun go down on your anger” was the theme behind the track ‘Sun go Down’.

“Written in our first year of marriage, I basically admit that I was totally dysfunctional. But I love this song, because it’s so honest to where I was at with my mental health.”

I Can Feel You

“Another love song, talking about my love life (shocker).”

“This was the soundtrack to Dan and my “honeymoon stage”.”

“It’s a ‘sweet’ track. It’s brings back the same emotional to me every time I hear it, as when I wrote it.”

Final Messages

“This EP proves to me that the only thing stopping so many people from pursuing what they want is fear. But, stuff it! What do you really have to lose?”

Anna’s journey in releasing her debut EP, has left her with a greater message that she is eager to share with anyone who has a dream of releasing their music.

She wrestled with the idea of ever releasing any music into the world and wants all musicians, songwriters and creators to feel free to share what they have with the world.

“I will shout this message from the roof tops: GO FOR IT!”
