Dublin-based alternative rock duo The Neon Sea makes an impressive debut with their single ‘As I Wonder’, blending shoegaze’s introspective tones with the raw energy of post-punk. The Neon Sea is made up of Tom Doyle, who provides the vocals, harmonies, and lead/rhythm guitar, and Dave Flood, who plays drums, bass, rhythm guitar, and also contributes harmonies. Formed in 2022 by Tom Doyle, the track explores profound themes of space, time, and existence, creating a meditative yet anthemic soundscape.
Produced by Dave Flood at The Open Studio in Dublin, ‘As I Wonder’ features lush harmonies, intricate guitar work, and atmospheric layers. Mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios (Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine), the track has a timeless, resonant quality. The Neon Sea’s influences are clear, drawing from acts like The Cure, Nirvana, and The Stone Roses, while forging their own unique identity.
The band’s visual identity is just as personal, with much of the abstract artwork created by Tom Doyle’s five-year-old son, reflecting their ethos of blending creativity and authenticity.
With ‘As I Wonder’, The Neon Sea has introduced a sound that is rich in emotion and sonic experimentation. This debut single marks the beginning of what is sure to be an exciting journey for the duo in the alternative rock scene.
