Finnish musician, philosopher, and author Lauri Järvilehto makes a powerful return with his latest album ‘Songs About Sadness’, a personal and introspective collection that blends indie pop and electro-rock. Drawing from his life experiences, Järvilehto explores universal themes of time, identity, and the search for meaning in a world that often feels quietly complex. The album marks a significant moment in his career, blending his expertise as a professional musician with his philosophical background to create a unique and thought-provoking musical experience.

‘Songs About Sadness’ is inspired by Järvilehto’s reflections on the last five years of his life, exploring different forms of sadness and melancholy. “When life hands you lemons, you can write songs about lemons”, he shares, encapsulating the album’s philosophical musings. The “A-side” delves into personal themes like fatherhood, marriage, and the challenges of balancing life’s responsibilities, while the “B-side” addresses social issues and global reflections. The track “Moomin Weather” serves as the album’s centerpiece, emphasizing the idea that life is not just about joy, but also about embracing struggles and melancholy.

For the first time, Järvilehto plays all the instruments on the album himself, including drums, bass, guitars, pianos, synthesizers, and drum machines, which allows him to express his deepest emotions in a more organic way. Special guest appearances by his daughter Silja, who provides vocals on two tracks, add a multi-generational depth to the album. The project was recorded and mixed in Espoo, Finland, and mastered at Abbey Road Studios, London.

‘Songs About Sadness’ is a musical journey through the highs and lows of life, offering listeners a space for reflection, growth, and solace.
