Longplayer, the solo project of Los Angeles-based musician Mikey Long, brings a fresh yet classic feel with his new single, “I Saw You Turning Around”. Known for his captivating riffs in Drugdealer, Mikey Long steps out on his own with Longplayer, creating a sound that beautifully merges the golden nostalgia of the 60s with a modern edge.

“I Saw You Turning Around” draws inspiration from a fleeting, almost cinematic moment with an ex-lover. This memory, reimagined through dreamy instrumentation and layered production, channels the spirit of George Harrison’s “Crackerbox Palace”. In this track, guitars flow like a horn section, enriching the sound without overshadowing Long’s reflective vocals. “I wanted to create something similarly rich and layered,” Long shares. “There’s a lot going on, but it all serves to enhance the vocals rather than distract.

Recorded in Los Angeles, the track features contributions from notable musicians, including Jay Watson of Tame Impala and Pond, who provided drums and mixed the song while on tour in the UK, and Shags Chamberlain on synth.

Long’s solo work, as demonstrated in “I Saw You Turning Around”, is not only a showcase of his talent as a guitarist but also as a songwriter and producer with a keen sense for blending classic sounds with forward-thinking creativity. His journey from Stratocaster-wielding secret weapon with Drugdealer to a solo artist makes Longplayer a project to watch for fans of psychedelic rock, British Invasion vibes, and timeless pop songwriting.
