Celebrated folk singer-songwriter Will Knox returns with his fourth studio album, English Silence, an introspective journey that delves into themes of healing, fatherhood, and self-discovery. English Silence showcases eleven carefully crafted tracks that highlight Knox’s signature vulnerability and lyrical honesty. Featuring the focus track “Body Talk”, the album is a reflection on unlearning past mental health patterns and embracing new growth.

Recorded in London with producer Ian Grimble (Bear’s Den, Daughter, Axel Flovent), English Silence presents a blend of tender acoustic strings, lush harmonies, and soft percussion that cradle Knox’s reflective storytelling.

The making of English Silence was a transformative period for Will Knox. Written during the lockdown, it became a way for him to confront his past as he prepared to become a father for the first time. In a personal reflection on this journey, Knox shares: “I started writing English Silence during lockdown, having learned I was going to become a father for the first time. The time allowed me to confront a lot of issues from my past, and I was determined not to pass on any of my own issues to my child. I took online therapy sessions and had some difficult but beautiful conversations with friends & family. A lot of unsaid things were said.”

This theme of communication—particularly the struggles of expressing deep emotions—runs throughout the album. It’s most poignantly captured in the focus track, “Body Talk”, which explores the art of non-verbal communication. Written with Belgian artist Emma Bale, the song is about relying on body language to convey feelings when words fail. Knox explains, “In the past I’ve often been too nervous, scared, or excited to tell someone how I felt, instead relying on physical hints and interactions to communicate.”

English Silence explores the delicate balance between self-healing and parenthood. In addition to his solo work, English Silence includes notable collaborations with artists like Emma Bale, néomí, and Fin Greenall (a.k.a. Fink).
