The collaboration between Wolves and Kat Meoz’s “Empire” starts off with an electric bass drone that rings out. Inevitably, it paves the way for Kat Meoz’s alluring vocals, which take over to turn this affair into more of a full-band extravaganza. And so the heady mix of old-school analogues to modern digital sounds continues as this angular and raw rock-scape unfolds further. Kat’s powerful vocals soar like a call to arms; ambition and desire; power and potential are filled within. The track is underlined by its modernity, which oozes clubland vibes filtered through an industrial lens for a unique edge.
Hooked from the first play, the smoky, sensual voice of Kat Meoz leads it off and is quickly joined by an almost industrial techno beat. It is perfectly structured and vital, setting an incredible atmosphere in the room. The inspiration came to Kat Meoz as she was driving past a certain building in Vegas, Empire Cat. Immediately, she got the melody and the lyrics forming in her head.
Founded in the thriving musical community of Los Angeles, Wolves and Kat Meoz first met at a rock show. The band features Kat Meoz on lead vocals, Amit Ofir on production, bass, and guitar, and Aviv Cohen on drums. Their music channels all things great about iconic acts like Nine Inch Nails, Garbage, and Nirvana to a sound that is gritty and potent.
The band has gotten their name around with great performances at notable events such as School Night, LA Weekly Chinatown Summer Nights, and also including the iconic Troubadour. The music has also been used to feature major brands such as Pepsi, PlayStation, Sony Xperia, their music appearing in films, TV shows, and ads throughout the world.
“Empire” was recorded in Los Angeles in Wolves’s producer studio, featuring live drums by Aviv Cohen. Putting it all together, the song features contributions by Kat Meoz, Amit Ofir, and Allie Crystal. The track was written with an emphasis on a timeless rock anthem—a song whose truth is self-evident. It speaks to that working-class hero in all of us who dreams of a life without limits.
Thus, when Kat went to Los Angeles to collaborate with Wolves, the session ran in an unending fashion. The music flowed through naturally, fuelled by the organic live sound of Aviv Cohen’s drumming. The result is a monster rock song that captures the spirit of ambition and resilience. Kat Meoz summarises the band’s ethos: “Nothing feeds the soul like music that’s made to heal your own journey and all I’ve ever wanted to do with my music is carve a sound that people would be drawn to and write lyrics that they could relate to, Empire ticks all the boxes.”
“Empire” by Wolves and Kat Meoz is an anthem for the big dreamers, high-livers. The fierce vocals, hard sonic terrain, and relatable thematic power come together to establish a steadfast connection with listeners.
