British Chill Band Kinobe Releases Dreamy Song ‘Lucky Stars’

Kinobe was formed in London in 1998 by childhood friends Julius Waters and Mark Blackburn following Waters’ return from Perth, Australia, where he had spent the greater part of his teens. Both multi-instrumentalists with a plethora of retro influences including soul, funk, blues, jazz, and R&B, they quickly began making music together. Kinobe became the quintessential downtempo group with the 2000 release of their single “Slip Into Something More Comfortable“, which became an instant chillout classic and was licensed for innumerable compilations, soundtracks, and TV commercials. Despite a minimal setup of guitar, synth, computer, and sampler, within a few months they had recorded enough material for an album. They have come a long way since then.

Fast forward to 2024, their new single ‘Lucky Stars’ is a dreamy voyage through Kinobe’s signature blend of shimmering strings, acoustic guitar, lilting flute, and electric guitar licks. The track evokes the buoyant whimsy of Percy Faith and the dreamy tones of Santo & Johnny, underscored by the introspective depth of Pink Floyd. It’s a sunny daydream, destined to become the soundtrack of your summer. The song serves as a preview of their upcoming album Out of The Blue, slated for release on August 9th, 2024.

Julius Waters, reflecting on the inspiration behind ‘Lucky Stars’, shared: “The melody came to me as I watched the ocean waves roll in on a perfect summer’s day. I thanked my lucky stars to be in such a beautiful place and for the inspiration I was gifted that day.
