I’MMORTAL is a New York and London-based genre-blending music producer, vocalist, visual artist, and creative director. With her latest single, ‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’, she delves into a dark, haunting exploration of revenge, grief, and rebirth.

The artist emerged onto the music scene in August 2023 with her debut tech-house single, ‘Versace Spaceship’, and quickly followed up with the cheeky electropop anthem ‘Supervillain’ in October. Despite being relatively new, I’MMORTAL has seen a steady increase in streams, monthly listeners, and hundreds of organic playlist placements, showcasing her rapid rise and undeniable talent.

‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’ marks a departure from the playful tone of her previous singles, offering a darker, more introspective experience. The song begins as a brooding anthem with a catchy hook, trap drums, and cinematic pop strings. As it progresses, the atmospheric elements dissolve into glitchy, shape-shifting dreamscapes, with hypnotic ricocheting synths and I’MMORTAL’s smoldering yet aloof vocals floating above.

Hailing from California, I’MMORTAL spent her childhood and teenage years playing violin in orchestras, unknowingly developing composition skills crucial for her current music production. With a theater background, she discovered her love for singing during high school musicals. Despite a fondness for classical music, she’s an avid listener of EDM, drawn to its gritty basslines and synthetic production. I’MMORTAL’s audio-visual synesthesia makes fusing otherworldly visuals to her imaginative beats only come naturally to her. Her campy visual work often encompasses themes of death and rebirth, the natural world versus artificial constructs, femininity, and her AAPI identity.

‘KILLED U IN A DREAM’ is ultimately a song about rebirth. During the two years that I spent working on the track, rebirth was a massive theme in my life both personally and artistically, and I wanted the track to reflect that sonically. My intention was for the song itself to sound like it was dying and being reborn, so I added an eerie BPM and key change half way through to create the feeling of a snake slithering out of its own skin. I also wanted the song to feel timeless, so a lot of the classical elements of the song such as the opera vocal sample and the violins were processed through effects often used in electronic music.” – I’MMORTAL
