WOTTS is back with their signature blend of synths, jangly guitar riffs, and driving drum percussion on their latest release, “Laundry.” The Canadian duo takes a step toward indie pop with catchy tunes overlaying an airy layered vocal style that sticks with you long after that first listen.

“Laundry” does nothing but drag you in from the opening note: a buoyant sonic tapestry supercharged with energy and a delicious post-punk edge, which WOTTS channels influences from names like Fontaines D.C. and The Horrors yet still manages to make it undeniably their own.

Jayem: “Bands like The Smiths and Fontaines D.C. have greatly impacted us,” says Jayem. “‘I think there are elements in this song that make it ‘us,’ but we felt the time was right to give some love to a genre that brings us so much happiness.” This love for UK music comes across with this track, being firmly in the present yet offering a nod to their influences.

While “Laundry” reaches out in new directions, WOTTS hasn’t lost track of incorporating the odd touch of familiar psych pop here and there. Jayem said, “We’ve been doing this for two years, and I think we’re finally starting to settle into a lane. We’ll always be down to throw in something fresh, but we like the idea of having a recognizable sound or vibe.” This is what makes up “Laundry”: a blend of familiarity with novelty that encompasses the meaning of a good song.

What can fans expect from their upcoming EP project? Ricky teases a mix of the old and new, saying, “On our last EP (PETALS), we were more so focused on telling a cohesive story rather than just making sure the sound was congruent with one another. Here, we wanted to pull on the best of what we’ve put out to date while ensuring everything made sense sonically together.”

In “Laundry”, WOTTS has penned a track that sets enthusiastic precedence for his forthcoming release. Infectious melodies and driving rhythms combine with the irresistible charm of the band to make “Laundry” a perfect addition to any summer playlist: crank this up, and let WOTTS take you on a jangly-synth-pop journey you won’t soon forget.
