“Denial” by My Satellite: Crafting Emotional Depth with Indie Pop Vibes

My Satellite

Right off the bat, My Satellite’s “Denial” peaks the listener’s ear with a rhythm of unabashedly catchy drums, quickly pulling one into a sensation of indie pop. An invitation to dance arrives with groove from synth and bass elements. Bright, extended, and layered vocals add yet another level of charm to this dance-worthy track.

“Denial” narrates the turmoil of a couple in the throes of their first big fight. The lyrics flushed a perfect picture: the rawness of the conflict and desperate attempts at trying to get it fixed to get over the hurt were not addressed. Giving an emotional insight into the beginning of cracks inside a relationship that stands overcome with infatuation right from the beginning, it calls both partners to an impending breakup.

My Satellite is made up of Bryan Stage, Andy Marshall and Dan Grimes. They were three musicians looking for the same things musically, and the rest fell into place with a series of serendipitous coincidences. Bryan and Andy first met when they were both living in Los Angeles through the original drummer, Justin Paul. Using a Craigslist ad, Bryan hooked up with Sammi Doll and, subsequently, guitarist Justin; while, through all the line-up changes, Andy stayed his songwriting soul mate; together, they wrote “Person,” the second LP from the band with “Denial” being the fourth single to be lifted from it.

My Satellite

Drawing from the classic bands as from Radiohead, Minus the Bear and Tame Impala, My Satellite is a sound all its own. “Denial” was recorded at Drooping Rug Studio in Los Angeles, a home studio owned by Andy and Bryan, respectively. The two handled the roles of writing, recording, and mixing and showed their multi-talented capacities for being in this position. This album, “Person,” and the house of “Denial” truly was born through their highly committed vision over the years and was recorded in numerous sessions.

Many saga went into the making of “Person”: long nights in the studio, take upon take, and a melting pot of created influences. There is natural chemistry between Bryan and Andy, something that comes over with the lattice of the record’s layers and its infectious grooves. In parts, quite chaotic, incendiary, and cathartic, it brings sighs of profound realisation and artistic growth.

“Denial” from the band My Satellite is an emotionally charged indie-pop track that conveys a deep narrative and is almost gripping. One of those tracks that emotionally buzz as much as with any musical instrument, this is no other dance track but more an elucidation into the core of My Satellite’s being.
