Inspiration struck Nevena while she browsed her songbook in Boston bedroom on an otherwise quiet evening, when looking through photographs of Lena evoked feelings of nostalgia and longing, while underscoring their distance between each other. Within thirty minutes she poured her heart and tears of both sorrow and love into writing the song; when she played it for her boyfriend that evening his reaction confirmed her decision to share this intimate tribute with the world.
Nevena tells it herself: My niece’s name is Lena and she lives in Serbia. Being a performing artist requires constant travel; often at the cost of time with our loved ones. Although being away can evoke feelings of sorrow or loneliness, distance can also remind us just how much we care about those closest to us; this song represents my lonely nights away from Lena; it expresses my affection.”
Nevena collaborated with Dusan Alagic from Belgrade, Serbia – who played piano on this heartfelt track recorded at Los Angeles Village Studios – to bring “Lena” to life.
