Sydney-based Australian duo Alibii (Will – guitar, synth and vocals and Courtney – lead vocalist) has burst onto the music scene with their infectious single, ‘Figure 8’. Filled with lively beats and synth-driven melodies, this catchy track seamlessly combines current indie pop vibes with a touch of nostalgia. Prepare to be captivated by their unique sound.
‘Figure 8’ is more than just a danceable tune; it encapsulates the collective lockdown experience while also serving as a personal anthem for those solitary dance sessions in our rooms. The duo invested two years and countless rewrites into crafting this track, making it a labour of love that deserves your undivided attention.
Alibii draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists, including the likes of Billie Eilish, Finneas, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, and Florence and the Machine. Their influences shine through in their music, creating a blend of styles that is uniquely their own.
The ethos behind ‘Figure 8’ is an intriguing one. The chorus hook was actually written back in late 2019, featuring the line “I’ve been walking figure 8s in my room.” The duo added a synth reminiscent of ‘Heads Will Roll’ and a thick synth bass line to create the hook. After shelving the song for 18 months, they rediscovered it in September 2022 and realised its relevance to the shared experience of going a little crazy in their rooms during the pandemic.
‘Figure 8’ delves into themes of paranoia and isolation, perfectly reflected in the atmospheric synths of the verses and the irresistibly upbeat pop chorus. It’s a song that invites you to bop your head while contemplating the challenges of navigating our own minds during uncertain times.
As Alibii continue to carve their path in the music industry, we eagerly anticipate their upcoming album and the musical journey it will take us on. So, turn up the volume, let the catchy melodies sweep you away, and get ready to groove to the infectious sounds of Alibii.
