Joyful Forfeit is the solo project from Kody Stieve, who writes all the music and features guests to perform live or be featured on recordings.
With influences like Death Cab For Cutie, Explosions In The Sky, The National, Slowdive, and Radiohead, it’s no wonder that “Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes” is a masterpiece of modern indie rock.
The guitars and vocals for ‘Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes’ were recorded in Kody’s home, the drums recorded by Cezary Borawski, and mixed and mastered by David Johansson.
The song is inspired by Kody’s battle with debilitating migraines, and despite its heavy subject matter, it has a cathartic, healing effect.
In Kody’s words, “I think taking a dive into a full band solo project at the age of 30 is certainly a daunting task sometimes, as there’s a sensation of lost time looming over my shoulders.
To be able to release music that resonates with people helps to dissolve that sensation, since it’s only as real as one perceives it to be.”
“Clawing At The Back Of Your Eyes” is a stunning masterpiece of indie-rock that will leave you wanting more. Keep an eye out for Joyful Forfeit’s debut EP, set to be released in the summer of 2023. This is definitely one to watch!
