It’s always a treat to discover a talented artist who is flying under the radar, and that’s exactly what happened when I stumbled upon The Drunk Astronomer debut EP “Octopi”. This North Yorkshire-based dream-pop maestro has created a collection of songs that are both hauntingly beautiful and thought-provoking, with a catchy indie-pop vibe that rings with ambience and laid-back, mesmerising depth.
From the first notes of the opening track “El Gato and the Multiverse”, it’s clear that The Drunk Astronomer is no ordinary musician. The psychedelic and cinematic ditty is inspired by the likes of Flaming Lips and Super Furry Animals, and sets the tone for an EP that is both inventive and emotionally engaging.
The standout track “Every Body” is a prime example of The Drunk Astronomer’s unique style, blending atmospheric synths and chugging guitars with a haunting vocal performance.
