Luke Frees Loses Himself In The Blissful Feeling Of Love With Single, ‘If There Ain’t A Heaven’

With a passion for songwriting running through his veins, Chicago, United States based singer-songwriter, performer, photographer, and producer, Luke Frees began writing music at the tender age of 5 years old.

Inspired by Nina Simone, the ballads of Tom Waits, and “Old Hollywood” film scores, 2017 saw Luke Frees releasing his debut Nick Cave and David Bowie inspired EP, ‘After The Rain’, which led to the beginning of a journey of sharing an array of music over the years, including 3 full albums and a plethora of singles.

Released along with B-side track, ‘To Pete’, the latest single from Luke Frees, ‘If There Ain’t A Heaven’ is the second of a string of singles being released each month, all including an A-side and B-side single.

“This song [If There Ain’t A Heaven’] was written way back at the beginning of this year, and it took a long time to get the recording right. I really wanted it to have a big cinematic sound, similar to Tom Waits’ Kentucky Avenue, and it wasn’t until I re-recorded the piano on the Steinway and recorded the strings with Corwin that it finally felt complete.” Luke Frees

The track dives into the feeling of being in love, and that blissful feeling that makes you feel like you can take on anything together. The song features stunning, clear vocals from Luke, layered upon the foundations of piano, played on his neighbour’s Steinway piano. Strings are introduced through the work of Luke’s long time friend and collaborator, Corwin Zekley.

“It can be a beautiful thing to lose yourself in someone else, but it can also be a dangerously easy way to lose your own identity. This song is about the beauty in that though, and how, at least while you’re at the peak, there’s nothing more wonderful than feeling understood fully by someone else.” Luke Frees
