Based in Darwin, Australia, folk-country singer-songwriter, music therapist and recent Australian Folk Music Awards nominee, Crystal Robins has spent the last decade performing across Australia and sharing the stage with the likes of Wendy Matthews, Toni Childs, and Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs).
Crystal’s debut release, ‘Wildfire’ led her to be shortlisted in the Listen Up Music’s Songwriting Prize in 2020, released into the public in 2021, and more recently nominated as a finalist for both the NT Music Awards (Folk Song of the Year), and the Australian Folk Music Awards.
The last year has seen Crystal Robins playing at a number of festivals in Darwin, and also touring her music to Desert Festival (Alice Springs), Gulgong Folk Festival (NSW), Tamworth Country Music Festival (NSW) and Tablelands Folk Festival (QLD).
With a 2023 debut album release on the fast approaching horizon, Crystal Robins shares a taster with her latest single, ‘Unravel’, recorded at the brand new ‘Gulwa’ Recording Studio in the Northern Territory, produced, recorded and mixed by local engineer Danny Christie, and mastered by Sam Moses (Moses Mastering) in Nashville, Tennessee.
The track features local musicians Aden Mackay (pedal steel/guitar), Tom Jones (bass) and Mark Smith (drums).
‘Unravel’ was written during the Covid-19 pandemic, which saw enormous change, upheaval and transformation for Australian musicians.
“It’s about trying not to fight the things that you can’t change or don’t have control over. So much has changed in our world in these past few years, it has sometimes been difficult to accept. This song is about allowing yourself to surrender and unravel, to let go and move forward.” Crystal Robins
There is an incredible authenticity that comes from the sound of Crystal Robins’ music. This is a track that can truly inspire you to begin accepting inevitable change that you may be facing within your own life.
