Residing in Nashville, United States, artist, Wyn Starks took to America’s Got Talent to share his deeply personal story and his original song, ‘Who Am I’ a stunning and heartfelt tribute to his late twin brother.
With his moving performance, judge, Sofia Vergara was moved to tears and Wyn received two standing ovations from his captivated audience.
“I’m glad I got to do it for my Brother on America’s Got Talent to honor him. ‘Cause it was truly one of his favorite songs and it resonated with him. I love to see how it resonates with people from all backgrounds, cultures, you know, life experiences. That’s something I’m really proud of that’s it’s been able to do. It Reminds me why I do this. So that’s why this song means so much to me. I want everybody to be able to be their true authentic selves. And to know that it’s okay.” Wyn Starks
Inspired by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson and Prince and the modern-day artists like Leon Bridges, The Weeknd and Sam Smith, Wyn Starks’ experience of Covid-19 left him without his hospitality job. For Wyn, this became an opportunity to refocus his energy completely on his musical career, which then led him to America’s Got Talent.
Growing up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Wyn and his brother were raised by a hard working mother. Music became a way of expressing his emotions during this hard time and has become the foundation for which his music is built on.
“That really had an effect on who I was, how I saw myself, and how I learned to value myself, because that situation was just hard,” Starks says of his childhood. “I just felt rejected a lot of times. So as a result, I kind of grew up with all these insecurities. I just didn’t really know who I was. I became something to fit in—to fit into society, to fit into what people expected of me.” Wyn Stark
