Tessa Lee Creates Dreamlike Imagery With Single, ‘Could It Be’

Square

I am so honoured to share the latest creation from Devonport, Tasmania based singer-songwriter, jazz vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, Tessa Lee, ‘Could It Be’.

With a sound that blends genres between jazz, blues, folk and pop, Tessa Lee is known by her fans for her incredible, energetic stage presence, playing both as a solo artist and in conjunction with her band, The Cold Weather Band (Ian Howard – drums, Fintan McCullough – guitar and Isaac Gee – basses).

Recorded and mixed by Jethro Pickett at Rolling On The River Studios and mastered by Colin Leadbetter of Leadbetter Productions, Tessa Lee’s latest single, and first release for 2022, ‘Could It Be’ was recorded with The Cold Weather Band and has been released in conjunction with the stunning video above, which was created with videographer Bree Sanders and film-maker Ursula Woods.

“The track arrived fully formed, without much stress on my behalf in the writing process. I was driving through town in my new van, and you know when you wave at a friend and they don’t recognise you because you’re in a new car? So that image went in… And on this particular day, there were literally hundreds of road works and I got this mad idea that maybe roadworkers are secretly in love with digging big holes, akin to the urban myth that firefighters are secretly pyromaniacs. So that went in. But those are just the images floating on the surface of this song, and underneath there’s something going on which is never fully stated, the way a painter leaves the interpretation of the work up to the audience. The protagonist has a secret, and every listener will project their own ideas of what that is onto the meaning of the song.” Tessa Lee

The sultry and heart-wrenching track features harmonies that will have you drifting off into a dreamlike atmospheric soundscape filled with understated, yet powerful guitars, bass and drums. The track is a must for a weekend drive or chilling outside in the sun.
