Wollongong, Australia based “musician-poet-calamity queen”, Cara Walkam is the musical brains behind the creative project, Meadowhip.
After experiencing a major haemorrhagic stroke in 2019, Cara began her healing through music as an exploration of herself and the world around her.
“I’m here to discuss the big three – capitalism, patriarchy, and myself.” Meadowhip
Inspired by the likes of Solange, Tame Impala, Erykah Badu and Frank Ocean, Meadowhip creates a honey-like melting pot of intertwining genres including pop, alt-R&B, soul and jazz and tops it off with poetically introspective lyricism that will leave you in deep contemplation and awe.
Deeply reflective, silkily seductive and with a pinch of healthy attitude, Meadowhip’s latest alt-pop/RnB single, ‘Am I Broken’ tells a story from the perspective of being “the problematic one” within a relationship.
“This song is about owning your mess and your part in the breakdown of your relationships, and finding a bit of comedy in it all. Am I broken? Indeed I am, a lot of the time, and I mean, who isn’t? But surely admitting to your flaws is almost as good as not having any, right?” Meadowhip
Produced by Chelsea Warner, the track features a 1940’s inspired trumpet that is showcased by Sydney’s Tommy Gun and was born out of a group songwriting retreat with Sydney’s hub for emerging artists with The Artist Studio.
If you’re looking for inspiration that balances the deeply intrinsic with some light-hearted fun, ‘Am I Broken’ is the perfect addition to your playlists.
