Square

The great music just keeps coming!

Below is an eclectic mix of five new releases that we are vibing with right now.

1. What If We Never Met – Wild Fire

Texas, United States based teenage sisters, Kayla and Kelli Iutzwig came together in 2016, to form the pop country musical project, Wild Fire.

Since they began, the pair have impressed audiences, playing at venues such as Houston Rodeo, NRG Stadium, NRG Arena and University of Houston Stadium, won first prize as Female Vocalist of the Year at the Josie Music Awards in 2018, and had a number of songs place in NBC’s “Very Cavallari.

Co-written in Nashville with co-writer Annika Bennet and produced by Austin Moorehead (Carly Pearce), Wild Fire’s track, ‘What If We Never Met’, speaks about the sentiment of trying too hard to make a relationship work, when deep inside, we know it’s a lost cause.

“The truth is, we are fooling ourselves. We should never waste precious time on someone who we have to
constantly cater to. It’s ok to let go of relationships that do not add value to our lives. Just know that greater things are in store” Wild Fire.

The melody and lyrics come together in this track to create a juxtapose between light-heartedness and a sense of angst and works to create the tension of the story being told between the need to stay and the knowing that you need to leave.

If you are a fan of the likes of Taylor Swift or Kasey Musgrove, this is a track not to be missed.

2. As Long As I Got You Babe – Ryders Blü

Irish duo, PJ O’Neill (guitar and vocals) and Jake Carrick (drums) come together to form indie pop project, Ryders Blü.

Inspired by the likes of The 1975, Joan, Dayglow, Lany, Jacob Sigman, The Brook and the Bluff, Ryders Blü began their musical journeys at the respective ages of 12 and 13, when they had the opportunity to tour extensively with Dave Maher’s band. The duo have now been playing together for 7 years and describe themselves as ‘completely musically co-dependent’ and share a mutual love of wearing Crocs.

“For right now… we’re writing really happy pop music. To escape the… mundanity of what life can be like. That’s the first act for our project. The second act… well you’ll just have to wait and see.” PJ O’Neill

The latest track from Ryders Blü, ‘As Long As I Got You Babe’, has been created as a work of pure escapism. For the pair, music is a work of art that allows them to escape the every day. While many artists are writing music that allows them to deeply explore their inner workings, Ryders Blü are writing music that oozes fun and creates a world all of it’s own. ‘As Long As I Got You Babe’ is absolutely in the same vein, depicting a world of summer time fun.

5. Two Dollar Coat – Brick Blair

Brooklyn, United States based singer/songwriter, Brick Blair began writing music as a teenager after a time where he says he failed as a choir boy in a Christian fundamentalist sect in Alberta, Canada.

Inspired by the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Townes Van Zandt, and Yosuf/Cat Stevens, has played a myriad of different styles of venues including rodeos, jails, correctional facilities, and churches.

Recorded and produced by Brick Blair and Robert Farren at RFL Studios in Brooklyn, the latest track from Brick Blair, ‘Two Dollar Coat’ is a stripped down, vulnerable song, that tells a story of a man imagining what his life would be like if he became homeless and alone.

When asked whether Brick has been homeless, he says, “No, fortunately. I’ve been close. I could see it happening for a couple of reasons. One is that although fortunately whether through my body as a carpenter or laborer, or through my mind as a writer, I’ve always been able to make a living, but I’m really bad at managing that money so I’ve been in very dire straits before, but the ability to earn some money has often saved me.”

Ultimately, this song cuts deep to the human part that we all share. Within his lyrical story-telling, Brick is able to create an observation of the world that we can all connect to and it’s beautifully wrapped up into a beautiful folk inspired soundscape.

“There is a fragile filament separating my life from those of people sleeping on the cold concrete that I walk each morning. That knowledge is useful. It keeps me connected to our shared humanity and the truth of our time together on earth.” Brick Blair
