Tel Aviv, Israel based singer/songwriter and Indie Pop artist, Lara Snow joins us to talk all about her latest single release, ‘Wild Sea (Stripped Version)’.

March 2020 Lara released her debut EP, Delete Forever, into the world and since that time has captured the attention of many listeners.

Lara Snow’s latest single release, ‘Wild Sea – Stripped Version’ is a reimagined version of the intimate and personal song, ‘Wild Sea’, taken from her debut EP, Delete Forever.

“All my songs are very personal, but with ‘Wild Sea’ I truly feel like my heart is out there for everyone to hold”, Snow says. “It is the story of a poisoned relationship and a great heartbreak.”

During the pandemic lockdowns, Lara took her vulnerable feelings and recorded this stripped back track, live in her own home studio, revealing the fragility and emotions running through the track.

“Staying at home for such a long time during the pandemic, made me reach inside and look for a deeper meaning and a deeper truth. To return to the most basic instincts and habits, rediscover the joy in little things. Suddenly without stages to play I found myself returning to where it all began – my voice and a piano.”

Listening to the track, the beauty of the simple piano lines, combined with the heartfelt emotion within Lara’s voice will have tears welling in your eyes as you connect with the sentiments of the song.

Tell us a little about who Lara Snow is in everyday life.

I always say that I am a dreamer.

I try to live my day to day life in the most graceful and delicate way I can.

I try to start every morning with some Yoga exercises, and drink my morning coffee on the balcony, or at the nearby coffee place, reading a book or listening to some music.

After that, I usually do some work or go to the studio, depending on the day.

Everything I do, I try to do lightly, and pleasantly.

I always leave time to meet the people I love, my friends and family, because human connections are what gives me strength.

I don’t have much free time, but when I do I usually take a walk to the beach or the park.

What was it that first got you into music?

I’ve been singing since I was very young, about two or three years old.

So it was always very clear that music is a big part of me.

I have also been writing songs since I was about six.

First, I started writing poems in my notebooks, and later on I realised I wanted to write songs, but I couldn’t play anything back then, so I found some local musicians and started my first band.

How would you describe the feel of your music?

Sad, Fierce, Dreamy, Intimate.

You have released your new single, ‘Wild Sea’.. tell us a little about how this song came about.

‘Wild Sea’ is one of the first songs I ever wrote on a piano.

Before that I used to write on beats, but I was a bit unhappy with this way of writing, cause I felt like I would be able to connect to a deeper truth, if the melody could run freely.

So I decided to change the way I’ve been writing. This song is very personal to me.

There was someone in my past, and we had this big love, but we couldn’t be together.

When it ended we didn’t speak to each other for many years, so I was writing songs about him, about the past, kind of honouring what we had, and that helped me find closure.

What does ‘Wild Sea’ mean to you?

Closure.

What is your creative process like, when you are creating your music?

I always start a song by playing some chords on my piano, and then singing to it.

Usually the melody and lyrics come together.

And I let myself just sing for a while, explore the melodies, until I catch a beautiful moment, something that is so beautiful that I have to record it.

Then I collect these moments, and turn them into a song.

After I finish writing a song, I usually record a piano-vocal demo, and later on, my team and I, we usually start working on the musical production.

Wild Sea was created in your bedroom during a lockdown.. How would you describe this experience?

The original version of the song was released right before the pandemic started.

It took me a while to get it right the way I wanted it, and finally it was out but I couldn’t play it live.

So my partner Jonatan and I, decided to film and record a live version at home,  in my living room.

The intimate setting made me want to share a more intimate version of the song, to really let people in.

So Jonatan played piano, and then I sang this one take while he was filming me.

Has there been anything along the releasing process that you would do differently next time?

Don’t think I would.

What would success in your music look like to you?

To be able to keep writing songs, recording them and sharing them with the world.

Playing shows in many different parts of the world.

Is there any message that you would like to share with your audience?

Always listen to what’s in your heart.
