Melbourne, Australia based indie pop artist, Finch Faux joins us to talk all about the release of ‘Never Go Out’.. The 2nd single from her forthcoming album.

Growing up in the rural town of Temora, Finch Faux combines the feel of rural warmth with the cool and edgy feel of city-based life of Melbourne in her music.

Finch Faux is not afraid to explore some of the deeper and darker emotions and challenges that we all face within our experience of being human and her latest single, ‘Never Go Out’ is no exception to this.

‘Never Go Out’ is a story of the experience of social anxiety, combined with relationships that she has experienced along her journey.

The track was written in a single day and recorded prior to the pandemic, however, the song has become much more fitting as many have experienced similar feelings throughout lockdowns.

“It really is quite fitting to be releasing this track with so many people currently in lockdown, myself included.” Finch Faux explains, “It’s a very relatable song in the current climate.”

Listening to the track, you will experience a push and pull, which can be likened to the experience of anxiety, with the electronic dance groove throughout the song, combined with the more melancholic lyrics of the song.

You can listen to ‘Never Go Out’ below:

Would you like to start by telling us a little about yourself?

Sure, I’m a solo artist based in Melbourne, I’ve been writing songs since I was 12 and I’ve just started releasing music this year.

What was it that first inspired you to begin a career in music?

I grew up in a very musical family, but I’m not sure that I ever knew I wanted a career in music, it’s just what I’ve always gravitated towards.

I just wanted to write and sing.

Now that I’ve started releasing music my appetite for it has definitely heightened.

It’s a whole new experience because I was very used to not having anyone hear my music, so now that it’s out in the world it’s very gratifying.

How would you describe the feel of your music?

It is quite varied song to song, but I went into the recording studio with a desire to make an album the rested mainly on groove and sadness.

I guess it’s classed as indie electronic pop with some dance and rock elements.

You have recently released your single ‘Never Go Out’ what is the inspiration behind the creation of this track?

I guess lyrically it’s an exhibit of my emotions surrounding anxiety and the complexity of relationships I’ve encountered in my life.

And sonically it really flips between my two inner personas on that subject.

The song relates to social anxiety, what has been your experience with social anxiety and what would you share with anyone suffering with social anxiety right now?

I’ve experienced social anxiety for as long as I can remember.

I’m not sure that I’m qualified to give advice on it, but what I tell myself is to not let the anxiety win, keep working on it when you can & know that most people are so wrapped up in their own insecurities to even notice anyone else’s.

This is the second single off your upcoming album, what would you like to share with us about the album?

The album is called ‘Flounderbound’, produced by Tobias Priddle, and it’s a conceptual album that I’ve been working on for many years.

I’m really looking forward to its release in 2022.

What did the creative process look like for ‘Never Go Out’?

I wrote the ‘skeleton’ of the song in one day, it kind of just poured out of me in one sitting.

Then I came back to it later to ‘flesh it out’.

As with all the songs on the album, I would create a little demo with my arrangements and then take it in to the studio with Tobias and we would in a sense, recreate and mould it into something bigger and more polished.

I do feel the essence of the demos are still felt, at least for me, in the final product

Where do you find your inspiration for your music?

My emotions are my main source of inspiration.

It’s a cathartic and deeply personal experience for me.

It’s like therapy. I’m also very influenced by other female vocalists and songwriters.

What would you like to see happen for you in your music from here?

I would really love for people to hear my music and connect with it.

That’s all I can really ask for.

What is one message you would like to share with your fans?

I’d like to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to anyone that has supported me and my music so far.

It really means the world to me.
