Genevieve Miles is a talented self-made musician hailing from Bristol and Birmingham. The singer takes us on a journey through the depths of emotions with her latest EP release, “So heavy, so hard to hold”. With the lead single “Beer In The Fridge”, it unveils a dreamscape of indie-pop that captures the essence of vulnerability, hope, and the complexities of love.

Originally written in 2020, when Genevieve Miles grappled with emotions too weighty for a single soul to bear, “So heavy, so hard to hold” has become a poignant milestone for the artist. Now 24, Genevieve Miles has faced new trials of loss and grief, and it’s her younger self who has provided comfort and wisdom through these turbulent times.

Reflecting on the release, Miles shares, “I wrote these songs throughout 2020, and it feels like I’ve grown up alongside them. They’ve been there for me as little gems of hope. They are about all the pain we carry around that feels too heavy for anyone else to hold, that often feels too scary to hold ourselves. I’m so proud that in moments of pain, my 20 year old self could find words. Now, in my 24th year, I have often found myself struggling for words in grief and loss, and I come back to these songs to feel understood, to feel held. I hope this EP makes you feel held and reminds you how truly loveable you are. You are never too much and you are always enough.

This release shows once again that music truly has the power to heal our souls. The song “Beer In The Fridge” is no exception as this is a bittersweet ode to a past relationship suspended between imagined happiness and harsh reality. The song beautifully blends autumnal acoustic tones with Genevieve Miles’ subtly melancholic vocals, creating a bedroom-pop masterpiece.

More globally, the EP explores recurring themes of dreams, nostalgia, hope, misguided love, and emotional growth. It’s the reflection of the emotions and feelings the singer in her early twenties went through. Each track serves as a narrative thread, with naturalistic motifs of the moon, the sun, and the ocean weaving through the musical tapestry.
