Litvar, the indie-rock trio from Willimantic, Connecticut, United States, is taking the genre by storm, blending indie-pop and alt-rock to create a sound that’s entirely their own. After the release of their 2022 hit “You Should Find A New Boyfriend”, Litvar is back with their new single “Alone (Not Lonely)”, a sarcastic love song that’ll make you want to dance and cry at the same time.
The song is peppered with self-aware lyrics like “I’ll be the sun, you’ll be the moon, that way we’ll rarely see each other”. It’s about enduring chronic pessimism and trying to be sad but in a cool way. If you’re a sucker for heartfelt indie rock, this track is right up your alley.
Litvar has revealed that they started working on “Alone (Not Lonely)” in February 2021, starting with just a chopped guitar loop that became the backbone of the song. They loved playing it live so much that they decided to record it for their upcoming sophomore album, Eloquently Aimless, due for release in September 2023.
The band recorded the bass, acoustic guitar, and drums live together at the legendary New Monkey Studio, the former studio of Elliot Smith. This gives the recording the same feel that they put into their live performances, and it’s evident in the energy of the track.
Litvar’s origin story is one of childhood friendship and a shared passion for music. Rex and Violet started playing and writing music together in high school and have been working together ever since. Their music took a new turn when they met Joe at a local Connecticut show in 2019. The chemistry was instant, and the trio soon began playing shows together in the local music scene.
Their debut album, The Greatest Movie of All Time, was produced during the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. It caught the attention of LA-based indie label Mother West, who released the album on vinyl, CD, and cassette. Since then, Litvar has been on a roll, releasing hit after hit and performing extensively across the United States.
Litvar’s music is sincere, heartfelt, and speaks to the experiences of small-town life. They’re making music that’s relatable and accessible, and their growing audience of fans can’t get enough. If you’re looking for indie-rock with a twist, Litvar is the band for you. Keep an eye out for Eloquently Aimless, set to drop in September 2023, and don’t miss their upcoming live shows.
