Faerie, the dreamy and distinctive musical spirit of Christine Joyce Lam, has done it again with her latest release, “Champagne Tears.” This single, which comes ahead of her anticipated EP “Dizzy Spells,” out February 2023, tells a story of two ex-lovers tangled up in toxicity and drama. It’s a nostalgic and laid back track that is perfect for a relaxing road trip by the seaside or a Sunday afternoon relax session.
As you listen to the track, you’ll be struck by the sweetness and fragility in Faerie’s vocals. Her ability to convey the emotions of the song through her voice is nothing short of impressive. The song sways and bounces, easy on the ears, though full of melancholy lyrics in between horn solos and Faerie’s cooing upper register. The passion and drama of the story is wrapped up and almost hidden in what Faerie calls a “leisurely, folk-inspired sound.”
The single came out of Faerie’s long talks with her producer Matty Bedrosian and co-writer Christian Young about the adrenaline addiction drama gives a person and the unhealthy thoughts and actions that result from the “high.” The full story in “Champagne Tears” solidified when Faerie realized that what’s inside the adrenaline would never truly be satisfying for her.
In “Champagne Tears,” Faerie invites the listener to escape the world and join the celestial one she’s currently building. The song is a fitting musical metaphor for a relationship of that nature, an internal, private chaos not always picked up externally. The song is a reminder that sometimes, in order to truly find peace and happiness, we need to let go of the things that once brought us temporary excitement and rush.
Faerie’s “Champagne Tears” is a must-listen for anyone who loves dreamy, folk-inspired music with a touch of melancholy. With the release of this single, Faerie has once again proven that she is an artist who knows how to tell a story through music and make the listener feel it in the most authentic way. We can’t wait for “Dizzy Spells” to come out and see what other stories Faerie has in store for us.
