Sasha & The Bear Search For Simple Joys In Life With Single, ‘Lake Sommen’

From Brooklyn, United States, artists, Sasha Daniel (vocals, songwriting, synth) and Dov Igel (vocals, production, guitar, synth) form the indie-pop duo, ‘Sasha & The Bear’.

After becoming friends in Brooklyn and realising that they shared similar upbringings, with Russian backgrounds, growing up in Israel, serving in the idf force as singers and then moving to New York in their 20’s to pursue music, Sasha and Dov formed Sasha & The Bear in 2016. Not long after, Sasha moved back to Tel-Aviv and the duo was put on hold, before more recently it was revived.

“Dov’s mom passed away last year and it was a very difficult time for him. I was there for him in the grieving process and was going through my own grieving as I was very close to her as well. She passed ten days before my wedding and that was a whole mix of emotions. This period brought us even closer and made us decide not to wait any longer and do what we love most – traveling and creating music with each other.” Sasha

Inspired by the likes of WET, Caribou, FKA twigs, Rosalia and Sylvan Esso, the pair have been seen playing the stages of Sofar Sounds in New York, when both in the same city.

Self produced and recorded in a cabin in Sweden, the latest single by Sasha & The Bear, ‘Lake Sommen’ tells a story about the need and desire for simplicities in life, through connection or experience, as a way to ease our pain.

“Everything about this recording was funny, inspiring and interesting. We recorded in two different huts in the Woods of Sweden and in each we encountered some strange things. How to turn on the water pipes outside, how not to burn the house while lighting the fire pit, finding sheets (cause apparently it’s not very common for airbnbs in Scandinavia to just give you some), cooking together, making sure we won’t get eaten by bears :)”

The indie-pop atmosphere created in ‘Lake Sommen’ is filled with so much depth and inspiration. Sasha & The Bear are a duo to watch and we look forward to hearing more from this inspiring pair.
