Hailing from Phoenix, Arizona, United States, indie pop singer/songwriter, Sophie Dorsten began sharing her passion and love of music from just the age of nine, starting a band with her brothers, ‘Sophie and The Boyz’ and beginning to release singles when she was 13 years old.
Covid-19 lockdowns saw a shift in direction for Sophie’s music. As the live music world came to a halt, Sophie began to create music with her brother, Alex, as he moved back home from college. Since November 2020, they have been recording their music in their home studio together, working their creative magic.
Inspired by the likes of ‘From Indian Lakes’, ‘Eleni Drake’, ‘Hippo Campus’, the pair working together is an amazing match, complimenting each other with Sophie writing the lyrics and melody, and playing guitar and piano, while Alex produces the music and plays the guitar, drums and bass.
Recorded in London at RAK Studios and Mixed by Mark Needham, the latest song by Sophie and Alex Dorsten, ‘Mountain Song’, is the kind of track that completely draws you in.. There is a simplicity of instrumentation that allows you to take in every element and drawing out the stunning vocals from Sophie.
“The studio gave Alex the opportunity to use a 1965 Gibson J200 that Jimmy Page played on the ‘Led Zepplin’ album. We were so thrilled and grateful to have that guitar on this song; I feel like it makes the song glow and of course Alex loved playing it.” Sophie Dorsten
