Square

The great music just keeps coming!

Below is an eclectic mix of five new releases that we are vibing with right now.

1. Long Way Ahead – The Midnight Vortex

Based in London in the UK, Midnight Vortex are a five piece alternative rock band that was created post UK lockdowns in 2021 as a way to get their musical creativity moving and to get back onto the live music scene.

Consisting of band members, Bri Macanas (vocals and percussion), Mouad Qach (lead guitar and backing vocals), Robin Thunders (lead guitar), Danny Sands (bass and backing vocals) and Rabie Targui (drums), the group have been influenced by the likes of Soundgarden, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots and The Doors and carry a sound combining the feels of alternative rock, indie rock, nineties rock, grunge, and blues ballads.

Following the success of their debut single ‘Before You Know’, Midnight Vortex are back with their second single, ‘The Long Way Ahead’.

The track blends the opposing vibes of soothing and ballad like chord progressions with a bass line that breathes life into the song, creating a polarity that will keep you engaged throughout.

With the addition of the depth of Bri’s intriguing vocals and the vocal harmonies in the song, this is one that will have you wanting to listen to much more of what is to come with The Midnight Vortex.

“Both our debut releases have been on the slower ballad-y end of the spectrum, which is nice and they’re nice tracks, but I’m really looking forward to recording and releasing some of our bangers!” – Bri

3. Hopes & Horoscopes – Elison

Indie rock duo from Iowa in the USA, Elison, is made up of vocalist and musician, Marissa Kephart and music teacher, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Scott Yoshimura.

The duo began after Marissa took the leap, during the pandemic, to fulfil a twenty year dream of playing the guitar and begin vocal lessons. After realising that influences and creativity aligned, she paired up with teacher, Scott to bring the demos she created to life.

Influenced by the likes of Sparklehorse, Dinosaur Jr., Yo La Tengo, Snail Mail, Slow Pulp, The Beths, Cat Power and Broken Social Scene, Elison have released their second single, ‘Hopes & Horoscopes’, which is a self reflective and vulnerable song that highlights the bad habits that Marissa struggles to shake.

Recorded and produced in Scott’s home studio, the indie rock track, ‘Hopes & Horoscopes’ features the contrasting soothingly emotional feel of Marissa’s vocals, combined with the driving rock beats and rhythm.

“It’s been so exciting to see the song take shape from concept to completion and we’re so ready to share it with others. I’m also excited to start recording our next set of songs.” Marissa Kephart

“The overarching storyline is about the relationship between the Wolf Child and the outside world. Whilst she discovers her strength, supported and healed by the natural world, she also becomes more alienated from human society. The Fall’s visualiser shows us the Wolf Child descending. Where from is unclear. A different World or something less tangible? Where she falls from, and where she is falling to is left unclear.”

Within the track, you will be faced with large scale cinematic drama, combined with a vulnerable intimacy and expressing the deep emotional ties of anger and disappointment.

5. Being A Girl – Lindsey Ferguson (Album)

At just 26 years of age, Los Angeles, USA based singer-songwriter, painter, and filmmaker, Lindsey Ferguson began her musical songwriting journey at the age of eleven, while recording acapella tracks on her mother’s phone, emailing them to the family computer and then re-recording harmonies to the original tracks.

Having been performing for much of her life, the beginning of the pandemic became a time for her to focus fully on the creation of her music.

Following the success of previously released singles, Lindsey is back with her twenty track album, ‘Being A Girl’.

The album is an intimate journey through some of Lindsey Ferguson’s most vulnerable moments between 2018 and 2021 and include topics surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic, heartbreak, mental health and then ending with the joy and excitement of meeting her fiancé.

It’s an autobiographical story of navigating the highs and the lows of experiencing life as a girl in her twenties.

This is truly an album to take the time and really listen and connect.
